Get frequent trims- Even though I’m transitioning YES! I still get trims! If not split ends will travel up the hair shaft resulting in a cut needed instead of a trim.

Low manipulation/protective styles - wash, deep condition & leave that hair alone is my motto! My hair is in 2 braids which I pull out whenever I’m going out and need to look like a person for a cute lil braid out. Flexi rod sets and braids are also great options.

Be patient- I’m looking in the mirror and reading this part to myself because not gonna lie I be side eyeing that relaxer sometimes lmao nah I’m kidding but transitioning without the big chop is a patience game especially when you start seeing that new growth coming in and you’re ready to be out of the awkward half natural hair half relaxed hair phase, trust me I get it but patience is key.

Strengthen hair - the line of demarcation where your relaxed hair meets your natural hair is VERY vulnerable to breakage. Because I’m aware of this and have gone a year without a relaxer already I use protein a bit more frequently in my routine. This can look like protein treatment every 6-8 weeks and light protein 2x / month for ME! My hair loves protein. I use a medium protein treatment (ORS Hair Mayo) as my actual protein treatment then a light protein DC or leave in conditioner in between.
