"It is the government's job to bring now those new products to the market and to make sure whatever profits are made at the market it will redound also to the benefit of the farmers," President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reiterated as he urged all concerned government agencies and the private sector to utilize all available technologies in ensuring the agriculture sector is thriving amidst various challenges in the country.
The President emphasized these during his attendance to the launching of the Mariano Marcos State University - Philippine Rice Research Institute (MMSU-PhilRice) 2023 Rice Paddy Art in the City of Batac, Ilocos Norte where he expressed his hopes to sustain the sector's growth while looking for effective ways to achieve food sufficiency and affordability through the use of modern technology.
"How do you move the new technology from the laboratory to the market? How do you learn how to produce that new product in a large scale? That is where we come in... We in terms of the Department of Agriculture. Kukunin ang pinakamagagandang teknolohiya lalo ngayon, the new technology has become so important because of climate change," he stated.
"The government is the one who will take it from the laboratory to the rice field. It is the government that will develop the technologies that are necessary. It is the government that will allow the farmers to process the new products," he added.
The Chief Executive also emphasized the need to ensure that collaboration among various agencies are sustained through continuous research and development in order to benefit both Filipino farmers and consumers anchored on sustainability.
"We have to increase our production. But we have to make that the increase in production redounds to the benefit of the farmers because it is equally important for me that the farmers make a good living," President Marcos Jr. stressed, urging the government and private sector to continuously strengthen their collaboration for the benefit of the nation.
