Is it time to modify your vision or mission statement? Marie will explore a few of the key indicators that it may be time to review and revise your nonprofit's mission statement or vision statement, or both.
A good time to review the mission/vision statement is when your organization is going through a transition. Are you changing programs or services? A vision statement may not be changed as much as the mission statement when things change. Another time to consider rewriting/changing the statements is when you ask a staff member or board member to state the current vision statement or mission statement and they can't. Be sure to ask "why not" and then consider how complicated or wordy it may be. Be aware of the community your nonprofit serves and any changes to the demographics or cultural shifts in the population you serve. Those changes can also signal the need to change or update your mission or vision statement.
