The VA Pact Act, provides VA benefits for certain conditions that are caused or aggravated during a veteran’s active military service. The Pact Act established specific presumptive disabilities that are eligible for benefits if they occur while in active duty or within a specified period after separation from the military.

These presumptive disabilities are generally related to service-connected injuries or illnesses that occurred while on active duty. The VA add more than 20 burn pit and other toxic exposure presumptive conditions based on the PACT Act. This change expands benefits for Gulf War era and post-9/11 Veterans.

These illnesses are now presumptive:
Asthma that was diagnosed after service
Chronic bronchitis
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Chronic rhinitis
Chronic sinusitis
Constrictive bronchiolitis or obliterative bronchiolitis
Emphysema
Granulomatous disease
Interstitial lung disease (ILD)
Pleuritis
Pulmonary fibrosis
Sarcoidosis
The Pact Act also covers disabilities that are associated with service-connected injuries and illnesses, such as amputations, hearing loss, vision impairment, mental health conditions and neurological disorders.
With the Pact Act veterans can be sure that their needs will be met by a just disability benefits system. VA is committed to ensuring all eligible Veterans receive the care and assistance they have earned. The Pact Act ensures that those who bravely served their country have access to the benefits they deserve.
