Playa del Confital - Beautiful natural beach in the north of Gran Canaria
The northernmost beach of Gran Canaria is called Playa del Confital and lies in a nature reserve on the La Isletta peninsula, directly opposite the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. To get here, you come along a narrow track which is actually more of an off-road route. But the trip is worth it - at Playa del Confital a beautiful, long, natural beach with plenty of variety and a great view awaits.
A boardwalk leads along the entire length of the beach and is wider in some places to provide comfortable lounging areas. There are some sandy areas underfoot, but they are mostly scattered with pebbles and stones. Elsewhere there are rock formations and natural stone terraces near to the water's surface, where bathers sit or lie and can slip easily into the water in places. Some of the small coves are difficult to see into and in these you can enjoy a little privacy.
Playa del Confital attracts many locals, who come with their friends and families. In the bays there are tent pavilions, where you can listen to music, barbecue, eat, chat and enjoy the day. Some of the visitors come here to ride the waves as well. The conditions for surfing are excellent, but it is only recommended for experienced surfers, as the rocks in the water make it dangerous for beginners. At low tide it's great for snorkelling and diving and you can enjoy the underwater world. At this time of day lots of small pools also emerge among the rocks, which children like to splash around in.
There are no showers or food outlets available and the public toilets can only be used in summer (June to September) when the lifeguard is on duty, because he unlocks them. However you can enjoy the fantastic view of the sea and the city all year round.
