In the upper jaw or maxilla as what we call it, the posterior part of the maxilla forms an empty cavity inside the bone called as the sinus, because this issues lies inside the maxilla bone, it is called as the maxillary sinus. Most often we all know it because it gives us lot of pain when we have a cold and it is called as sinusitis. Sometimes the bone height of this floor so thin that we do not have adequate bone enough to place the implant. In such cases we do is we lift the sinus membrane in the empty cavity is that we get more space for the bone we fill in artificial bone there and it is like building a wall into the sinus. So we get an extra leverage of bone where the implant is replaced. It used to a highly scary procedure few years ago. Today newer techniques, more fool proof or technique proof techniques have been advised that it can be a fairly simple outpatient procedure but the result also means that more stronger implants placed in solid bone so that the longevity of the implant increases.
