The Globe and Mail published CSIS reports that the Trudeau Foundation was used in an influence operation by the Communist dictatorship in Beijing.
Today we heard from Mr. Johnson, the current CEO and a member of this publicly funded foundation since it was formed, that:
- the Trudeau Foundation was special because of its name,
- there are no bylaws for foreign interference,
- there is no oversight of donations, and
- there is no due diligence done on donations.
It’s the perfect route for a foreign dictatorship to influence the Prime Minister.
And Beijing was successful. Within five months of the donation, signed for by Alexandre Trudeau (the only time the Prime Minister’s brother signed a donation agreement in 20 years), the Beijing operatives had direct access to the Prime Minister.
That sounds like a successful influence operation and a cheap one for $140,000.
