It is so simple to dehydrate a bit of your sourdough starter into a dry cracker that will store basically forever and make it easy to give as a gift. It is an easy way to travel with starter too!
1) Just spread active sourdough starter on parchment paper.
2) Leave it out to dry in a cool, dry environment for about 24-48hrs depending on the environment and how thickly you spread it out.
3)You know it is done when it makes a cracking sound when broken.
Tip: Use a fan to speed up the drying.
It will store indefinitely in this dehydrated form as long as it is fully dry. To be extra careful, store your dry starter in the freezer.
