I created this practice etude to help guitar players who are new to selective picking, a technique popularized by the incredible Tosin Abasi, to start exploring the method. In this exercise, we harmonize the G harmonic minor scale up to the 5th degree using triads. When I say this is aimed at beginners it more means players that are new to the technique!

The key to mastering this etude is to pick the first note of each 16th note group and then use your fretting hand to hammer on the remaining notes of the triad. It can be challenging to synchronize both hands, and it requires practice to achieve a balanced sound, where the picked notes and hammer-ons have equal volume and clarity. Additionally, you'll need to focus on muting techniques to prevent unwanted string noise and ensure the articulation of each note is clean. Take your time with it, and be patient as you develop control and consistency with selective picking.
