It is May, 1945. The war in Europe is over. P-47 Thunderbolt pilots make their presence known over Germany in this vintage Army Air Forces Kodachrome motion picture film found in the National Archives.
The markings on the Thunderbolts look like the three squadrons of the 365th Fighter Group. Crew chiefs ride the wings as the P-47s taxi, giving the pilots another set of eyes as they maneuver on the ground.
The spoils of war include a blue car that carries pilots to their planes and a bright red German flag appropriated as a signal for launching aircraft.
At the end a look at aircraft art appears to be from a B-26 Marauder.
