In this Quick Drum Lesson I'll demonstrate a fun and difficult exercise that I call "Quintuplets From Hell!" The first step is to play double-stroked quintuplets over a quarter note played by my left foot on the hi-hat. This is challenging because the sticking is always shifting over the hi-hat. Next, we'll play the bass drum with the hi-hat, then play the first two quintuplet partials (12---) then the first and third (1-3--), then the first and fourth (1--4-) then the first and last (1---5) and repeat it over and over. There are many other possibilities, but these are probably challenging enough for most of us...they certainly were for me!
