Pancreatic digest of casein (mammalian milk protein) 15.0 g
Papaic digest of soy meal 5.0 g
NaCl 5.0 g
Agar 15.0 g
“sterilize by autoclaving”
Cool media to 45 to 50°C, warm blood
add 5% (vol/vol) sterile defibrinated blood
Mix thoroughly + Avoid bubbles + Carefully pour in plates
General-purpose enriched medium
Differentiate bacteria (Hemolysis)
Human blood is discouraged (human blood-borne pathogens)
Blood Agar Is Not a Selective Medium!
Blood Agar" is not a consistently defined medium!
