Several thousand Iranians set US flags on fire on Wednesday and chanted anti-US slogans during a rally in Tehran.
The demonstration came as hard-liners have intensified a campaign to undermine President Hassan Rouhani's outreach to the West following a landmark nuclear deal reached with world powers in July.
The annual state-organized rally drew greater attention this year due to hard-line concerns over an emerging rapprochement between Tehran and Washington amid Rouhani's efforts to end three decades of estrangement between the two old foes.
The rally marked the 36th anniversary of the Iran hostage crisis, when a group of Iranian students stormed the US Embassy in 1979 and held hostage 52 American diplomats and citizens for 444 days to protest America's refusal to hand over toppled Iranian shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi back to Iran for trial.
He did not specify any names of the detainees.
Raeisi reiterated that the Islamic Republic will stand up to any cultural, social or economic penetration by Americans.
