A lot of people have been asking is the winnower real or if it is something the witness made up. Lets take a look at the lore and come to a conclusion ourselves. I think we need to ask ourselves 5 questions:

1. Do the in universe characters believe them to be real?
2. Do the motivations of two characters line up enough to consider them the same?
3. Do two characters present themselves in the same way?
4. When we learn more about one or both characters do they line up?
5. Is the Final Shape the same for both characters?
