Located on the Wien - Budapest main line in northwestern Hungary, Győr has an architecturally impressive station with a wide variety of different train types passing through.
The station terminal was completed in a monumentalist style from 1953 to 1958. Győr is served by the most modern electric locomotives in the fleet of the Hungarian State Railways MÁV (Magyar Államvasutak) and is also the eastern terminus of the namesake Győr-Sopron-Ebenfurti Vasút (GYSEV). This Austro-Hungarian cross-border company has a rich history and dates back to 1875. It is most distinctive today for its modern trains in the established "canary" livery with yellow and green.
One of the standout features of Győr station is the tall tower of the impressive city hall, which is located right outside the station on the north side of the tracks. Built in 1900 in a Neo-Baroque style, this local landmark gives the railway facilities an attractive backdrop and can easily be seen in greater detail during brief stopovers or train changes at the station.
Seen in this film are Flirt 1 and Flirt 3 EMUs of Stadler, the Talent electric multiple units from Bombardier, the Tauraus and Vectron locos from Siemens, including the dark red ÖBB Taurus on the express RailJet trains, plus the traditional orange M41 (Class 418) Bo-Bo diesel locos builty by MÁV in Budapest from 1972 to 1984.
Simply said, this short filmed can be summed up at "Trainspotting in Hungary". The footage documents railway operations at the Győr station in late July 2020.
