Looking for a plant that deters deer, rabbits, and attract 🐝🦋 that also makes a pretty ground cover? This is our kids’ favorite, because of the soft texture. They used to tell me that it‘s a furry plant.😁The leaves are velvety soft like lambs’ ears, hence the name.☺️ Check out the info below. 🌿

Lamb’s ear (Stachys byzantina), is a cold-hardy perennial to USDA zones 4-8 and a member of the mint family (Lamiaceae). It is also known as woolly woundwort due to its antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be applied to wounds or soothe insect bites, and used as a poultice.

Lamb’s ear tolerates most soil and is relatively low maintenance and drought-tolerant once established. Performs best in full sun, but will thrive in partial shade.

The plant is densely covered with plant hairs (trichomes). Remember trichomes are found on numerous plants including tomatoes, squash or sunflowers, and they don’t grow into roots.😊 Trichomes protect plants from changes in atmospheric conditions. They may also secrete plant oils to deter pests or attract beneficials. Lastly, they can act as a barrier.

Herbivores such as rabbits and deer are turned off by the texture, so they avoid eating them. For this reason, it makes a great border plant and it’s also a magnet for 🐝🦋🐦! Lamb’s ear is a beautiful plant with grayish-green color. It would add a nice contrast in any garden.
