The Rout of Winchester, as it became known, happened on September 14, 1141. Matilda had been embroiled in a battle for the crown of England against her cousin Stephen in a war called The Anarchy. Stephen was imprisoned in Bristol Castle. The church had finally officially acknowledged that Matilda was the rightful heir to the throne and Preparations began for her coronation. Matilda began to become unpopular with the people of London as well as many of her advisors and nobles. Matilda was evenrually driven out of London. Stephen's brother, Henry the Bishop of Winchester- the man who had helped Stephen get crowned in the first place, and who switched sides to Matilda after the infamous battle at Lincoln, now switched sides again back to Stephen at the pleadings of Stephen's wife. As soon as Matilda heard about this she immediately set forth to the great city of Winchester with her army led by her half Brother Robert the Earl of Gloucester where Henry was. At the news of this Henry escaped to his Palace just outside the city and contacted Stephen's wife Mathilde for assistance. Mathilde quickly got got together men hired by the Bishop, a group of her own feudal tenesnts from where she came from in Bologne, 1000 men from London Matilda, the Flemish mercenaries and others who were in support of the imprisoned Stephen' Meanwhile Matilda and her forces set up in Winchester castle and her half brother not far away near Winchester Cathedral. They began laying seige on the castle where Bishop Henry had retreated to. Bishop Henry's men set fire to the city of Winchester. Mathilde had arrived with her relief contingent blockading Emperess Mathilda and her army in the city. Two armies. Two women. The seige was set. All was lett now was to wait. And wait they did. eventually Matilda's side started running out of food. Starvation was setting in. Matilda's half brother Robert knew the situation was not sustainable and wanted to withdraw. Robert of Gloucester was captured and was subsequently exchanged for Stephen, who was returned to the throne of England. And the game of thrones cotinued.

She has appeared on such shows as National Geographic’s Hydrogen vs. Hindenburg, Bosch, Criminal Minds, Castle, The Mentalist, Parenthood, The Thundermans, The Kicks, Marry Me, Outsourced, the Academy Award winning film Her, the Ridley Scott Associates film Loom, and most recently Ghostbusters.
Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelors and Masters degree from UCLA and a PSD from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love for history, castles and photography together.
