When I was 19 I worked at a local music store, I sold guitars and recording equipment. I befriended one of the clients that came in who had a studio. I got a call one day saying: 'I'm on tour and I have a high profile artist coming in to record, can you do it?'.
That client was Louise Goffin with Gail Ann Dorsey along with Dave Gilmour and Pink Floyd Engineer Andy Jackson!
The studio was small with a low ceiling and we have a limited selection of Mics. But Andy is world class and within a few minutes he had an amazing drum sound!
What was this sorcery? How did he do it?
Overheads are one of the most important parts of drum recording and allow you to capture natural picture of the whole drum kit.
In this tutorial Matt Weiss shows you how to fine-tune the definition, width and room sound of your overhead recordings by using two different miking techniques.
I hope you enjoy it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing,
Warren
