The Grand Peterhof Palace is a complex of palaces and gardens in Peterhof, near St. Petersburg. Here, in Peterhof, known also as “the Russian Versailles,” Russian Emperors had their country residence. Tsar Nicholas II and his family, who lived in the Alexander Palace, used Peterhof as their seaside retreat. When they visited Peterhof, they stayed at the Lower Dacha which was in Alexandria Park, part of the Peterhof complex. It was badly damaged during the Second World War and was destroyed in the 1960s.
