A $50,000 STI?!

Yes, Subaru is going to charge you nearly 50 large if you want to put the new WRX STI Type RA in your garage. How can that justify that price? In a few ways...

-The steel roof has been swapped out for a carbon fiber unit.
-There chassis has been refined and this results in the greatest handling WRX STI of all time.
-This is a low-volume homage to the Record Attempt car driven by Mark Higgins at the Nürburgring.
-The standard valves have been replaced by sodium-filled valves for better transfer of heat.
-The aero improvements are functional and push the car more aggressively into the pavement.

Sure, we'd all like to see more than a 5hp gain here. The EJ engine is on its last legs. There's a new platform out there and the WRX STI needs to be on it.

So consider this car, not as a regular STI for your average Subaru fan, but a good-bye homage to Subaru loyalists... ones with quite a bit of cash to spend, mind you.

500 examples will be built, and I have no doubt that each one will find a home. And then the rest of us can sit back with great hope that the next-generation STI will learn some Type RA tricks, with a fresh engine, more power, and a far more approachable price point.
