Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Cyndicut FM broadcast on 97.8 FM on Sunday October 11th 1998. MC A1 is the one to listen out for on this. He was definitely an underrated MC.
This set was before the DJ Magic (P.O.T. - Prisoners Of Technology - Fresh Kutt Records) and MC A1 joined Kool FM 94.5. Their talent were getting noticed by industry heads and promoters. DJ Magic was an established and well respected producer of some of the scene's most celebrated underground tracks of that era. DJ Magic must not be confused with J Majik, from Goldie's Metalheadz label. He too was a legendary producer.
It is interesting to see where these stars were at this moment in their careers. The legendary Eksman was still grafting his way up the ladder and was still mountain away from today's successful collective Problem Central (Logan D, Magistrate, Evil B and Eksman). This in itself as story shows how far he came and the level dedication he pursued to get to the top. Eksman (also known as EKS) was the most underrated MC of that era. He felt hard done by and ravers wanted him to feature. It was only a matter of time. He got his big break when he got booked for the main arena of a one of scene's major events, Desire 1998 July Fired Up @ Bagleys Warehouse, Kings Cross London (DJs: Hype, Darren, Phantasy, Swift, Nicky Black Market, Randall, Bryan Gee and Flapjack. With MCs: GQ, Rage, Fearless, Skibadee, Kray Z B, Stevie Hyper D and Five Alive. His rave scene career was gaining momentum and he was already in the sight of Kool FM. Eksman was booked for the legendary Heat & Jungle Fever, Friday 17 September 1999 @ Hastings Pier (DJs: Dready, Richie Weaver, Bryan Gee, Randall, Ray Keith, Brockie, Nicky Black Market, Funky Flirt, Devious Dee, Grooverider, JJ Frost, Andy C and Mampi Swift. With MCs: Skibadee, Det, Shabba D, 5ive-0, IC3, Fearless & Eksman. With special guests The Ragga Twins.
Eksman was known back then for his partnership with MC Herbzie. They had started MCing together on Pressure FM 100.4 around 1995/1996 before making the switch to Rude FM 104.3 a couple years later. To think where he was then and where he has come now with all the accolades and awards he has racked up makes you appreciate this recording and the growth of one the London and UK's best MC.
