A gleefully bloody and brassy high school horror-action romp (think a knowingly outrageous gory mash-up of The Breakfast Club, Scream, and Heathers), this witty sequel to the hit Bad Kids Go To Hell is once again based on Barry Wernick's comic books. It brings together a mismatched group of teens given detention at posh Crestview Academy. Before long, they get caught up in a series of gloriously Grand Guignol killings. A cult film in the making.
2016 American action comedy thriller film directed by Ben Browder. It is a sequel to the 2012 film Bad Kids Go to Hell. The screenplay was written by Barry Wernick and James R. Hallam. It is based on Wernick and Matthew Spradlin's best-selling graphic novel Bad Kids Go 2 Hell a book about the stories of the Wildman and Calloway children at an evil prep school. The film stars Sammi Hanratty, Colby Arps, Sophia Taylor Ali, Erika Daly, Matthew Frias, Sean Astin, Gina Gershon, Ben Browder, Sufe Bradshaw, and Cameron Deane Stewart.
Long summary:
DETENTION SUCKS but it's KILLER FUN: It's four years later, and a new group of students has been placed in Saturday detention at the infamous and prestigious Crestview Academy. When Siouxsie, sophomore 'undercrust,' crashes the party to avenge her sister's death, a Saturday detention reserved for the privileged seniors of Crestview Academy turns into a date in hell. It's not long before a naïve pussycat lover, gay drug dealer, smokin' hot preacher's daughter, squeaky-clean senator's son, and the uninvited younger outsider find themselves locked-up in school with no way out, wondering who (or what) has set them up. Hilarity and suspense ensue while each 'bad kid' pits one against the other, and one by one each falls victim to absurdly gruesome 'accidents' while trying to escape. (Based on the best-selling graphic novel sequel 'Bad Kids Go 2 Hell.')
Director: Ben Browder
Stars: Gina Gershon, Sean Astin, Sophia Ali, Sammi Hanratty, Drake Bell
Trivia:
Although she made her feature film debut as a child in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), this marks the first time as a young adult that Ali Astin plays opposite her father Sean Astin in a feature film.
While Ben Browder reprises his role of Max in Bad Kids of Crestview Academy, he also makes his feature film directorial debut.
Samantha Hanratty and Sean Astin reunite on the set of this film, after they had previously acted together most recently in Moms' Night Out (2014) and Amazing Love (2012). Hanratty also reunites with Drake Bell, having previously guest starred on Drake & Josh: Foam Finger (2005). Hanratty and cinematographer Charles Schner are no strangers either, as Hanratty worked in front of the camera as a recurring role on the hit WGN America series Salem (2014) while Schner operated Camera on many of the same episodes.
As is the case in many comic book movies, characters are often played by different actors in different installments. In the case of "Bad Kids of Crestview Academy," Sean Astin replaces Judd Nelson as Headmaster Nash, and Gina Gershon replaces Eloise DeJoria as the former Governor and in this installment Senator Wilkes.
