Aboriginal people sometimes feel they're out of the loop when it comes to Federal politics. But there was one Indigenous man who literally became a driving force for decades for 11 of Australia's Prime Ministers. Gamilaroi and Darug man Alfred ‘Alf” George Stafford led a distinguished life. His four decades in the public service began in 1937 when he worked with the transport office and was appointed the personal driver to prime ministers. Alf had an especially close relationship with Sir Robert Menzies. A collection of personally signed letters and photographs from prime ministers and political figures highlight Alfred Stafford’s untold story and his role in Australia’s political history. The Stafford Papers have now been donated to AIATSIS. Here's political reporter Myles Morgan.
