Of all metal snares, I love the Ludwig Black Beauty the most, but the Star Reserve Aluminum is really a drum I play quite often and it has been chosen over the black beauty by 2 different live sound engineers. Compared to the black beauty, its more dry, similarly aggressive attack with the sound arc hoop and a really weird dark, complex shell sound ... which is really very different from other aluminum shells. The shell is also very different from other aluminum snares: welded, hammered, very thick (3mm!), and an extremely sharp, narrow bearing edge (its not bend 45° smoothly like many other shells).
Chances are, that you know how a Black Beauty sounds, so you'll be able to understand better where to put the Tama Star Reserve Aluminum in this recording! ;)
