Will we benefit from a 4-day work week?
Since the 1920s, the current 5-day work week has been proven to fairly disseminate tasks of workers under a daily 8-hour shift, and this benefits companies and business more, making it a standard "business day" as we call it. However, the two days remaining in a week do not fit to cater workers' work-life balance since the days off are mostly used for chores.
Does this mean that shifting to a 4-day work week will give workers a better work-life balance? Simply put, this working concept is compressing the 40-hour per week standard working hours to 4 days, thus a 12-hour working hours per day will be required instead.
With the current lifestyle conditions, adaptation to new jobs, and adaptable working concepts like hybrid and work-from-home, will the additional day off of a 4-day work week really benefit workers' physical and mental state to recharge for the week or will it just compress tasks that will neither help the companies and workers?
