For the 2024 model year, Renault has unveiled an updated version of the Captur, aligning it with the company's latest design trends. Highlighted by new LED lights for the day and a redesigned, more prominent logo, the vehicle showcases a substantial transformation, especially at the front end—a rarity in the life cycle of most cars.
The rear end sees less dramatic, yet notable modifications. The taillights maintain their characteristic "C" configuration, albeit with updated graphics. The refreshed Renault badge now adorns the tailgate, echoing the brand's current visual identity. Additionally, the previously used faux exhaust accents have been omitted, indicating a potential shift away from this decorative element.
A significant addition to the Captur range is the Esprit Alpine trim, replacing the outgoing RS Line. This trim level offers an extensive palette of customization options, including 14 two-tone paint schemes and an equal number of solid hues. The base model of the Captur for 2024 is equipped with 17-inch steel wheels, with options to upgrade to alloy wheels of the same size, or further, to 19-inch alloys exclusive to the Esprit Alpine trim.
Inside, the Captur remains recognizably the same, given that the changes are part of a refresh rather than a full redesign. The center stage is taken by a larger 10.4-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and the most extensive digital display available for the dashboard is 10.25 inches. In a move towards sustainability, Renault has decided to forgo leather and chrome finishes in the interior, opting instead for upholstery made from recycled and renewable materials, such as hemp.
Powering the entry-level Captur is a compact, yet efficient, three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 90 horsepower through a six-speed manual transmission. An option exists for a larger, four-cylinder 1.3-liter turbo engine, which offers 140 horsepower with the manual gearbox, or 160 horsepower when paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
For those inclined towards hybrid technology, the Captur E-tech Hybrid features a combination of a 1.6-liter petrol engine and a 36-kilowatt electric motor, supplemented by an 18-kW high-voltage starter generator and a 1.2-kWh battery, culminating in a total output of 145 horsepower. This model prioritizes electric propulsion, with Renault claiming that up to 80% of urban journeys can be conducted on electric power alone.
Reflecting broader automotive trends, particularly in Europe, the Captur no longer offers a diesel engine option, steering clear of diesel for its smallest segment. Nevertheless, an LPG variant is available, powered by a three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbo engine, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. With both petrol and LPG tanks full, this version boasts a range of 684 miles, merging efficiency with extended range.
