Since 2015, there have been a consistent release of David Bowie "Era" Boxsets with a new one on the horizon as this video is being uploaded. Each "Era" boxset features fresh remasters for the albums in the period of time it covers along with a few goodies too - the main one being "Re:Call". "Re:Call" is a compilation of singles that have been released during the 'era' covered and remasters both A-Sides and B-Sides too with even minor single edits getting a remaster too. Every boxset has its own "Re:Call" however the very first "Re:Call" is unavailable on Youtube so I've decided to re-upload a handful of the rarities from the collection in their 2015 remastered form!
While "John, I'm Only Dancing" is considered to be one of Bowie's greatest singles, the amount of different mixes and versions may confuse the average listener. The original mix is featured on "ChangesOneBowie", the "Sax Version" is a re-recorded version from the "Aladdin Sane" sessions that feature Ken Fordham on Saxaphone and a third version called "John I'm Only Dancing (Again)" which is a much more funk-influenced disco version recorded during the "Young American" sessions. This "Sax" mix is generally considered to be the best version of the track even so far as to be almost put on "ChangesOneBowie" but only to be scrapped for the original single mix.
