This weeks video is on TIG Welding Aluminum when there is no place to prop your hand….
2 things that make aluminum more challenging to weld than most other metals are:
1. It gets hot quickly making it difficult to find a place to prop your hand
2. An unsteady hand dips the electrode in the puddle making you want to cuss.
For this video, I welded a 2 ft long vertical lap joint using my Tig Finger® XL.
There was just no other simple way to prop.
I could have rigged up something to prop on like a piece of small pipe run vertically next to the weld.
Or I could have just stopped every couple of inches when my knuckles started screaming.
But I didn’t need to.
I finished the weld without any pain by gliding up the edge of the metal right next to the weld.
Have you ever hung in there too long trying to finish a pass and got blisters on your knuckles?
I have...seems to be a common thread among us welders.
The TIG finger® XL is for those type situations like aluminum or preheated 9 chrome pipe, where it is just plain uncomfortable to prop against the hot metal.
Made out of the same heat resistant material, just bigger and thicker than the regular TIG finger®.
I have a few specials on my store where you can save a few bucks by ordering both the TIG finger® and the XL.
And there are also bundles where you can order a TIG finger® and Furick 8 clear cup for a savings.
