It’s the latest twist in a spying scandal that first rocked the western world in 2013 - when Edward Snowden blew the whistle on US spying in Europe.
European leaders are once again demanding answers of the US after revelations about its shady spy operations on the continent.
This time it’s a report that accuses Danish intelligence of aiding American efforts to tap the communications of senior European officials.
The National Security Agency in Maryland is said to have accessed the text messages of a number of prominent individuals – including German Chancellor Angela Merkel - using telephone numbers as search parameters.
