So this is the proposal video I put together over a few nights. I've never created a lyric video like this before. Pretty much have zero video editing skills. I used the Lyric Photo Art application from TuneWiki for both verses and the first chorus. For the second chorus I used the Google app BeFunky Photo Editor so that I could add my own words to the photos. To put the photos together with the song, I used the Google app WeVideo - Video Editor.
It was pretty strange how I even found Joel Baker's song. I was driving into work one morning listening to a Christian talk radio station when in between programs they played this awesome acoustic driven song that I really liked. I tried to find it on Google and wound up on the Good Christian Blog. I wasn't able to find the song I was looking for, but I stumbled upon Joel Baker's music. I started listening to his album on Spotify, and this song really stuck with me. After about the second time listening to it, I saw myself proposing to Ashley at the edge of Flathead Lake in Montana on my Grandpa's property. I decided I wanted to somehow play the song before I dropped to one knee in classic fashion.
I got the idea of trying to create a semi-chronological picture story that started a little bit before we started dating, and that would cover the last year and a half that we had been dating all the way up until I asked her to marry me. Some of this idea came from a friend of mine who gave his journal to his girlfriend, so that she could read through all of the his perspective on all of their dates including when he had decided that she was the one for him. Unfortunately, I'm not all that consistent when it comes to journaling, so telling a story with our personal photos was the best thing I could come up with.
I flew my girlfriend up with me to my Grandpa's place in Montana which is located on Flathead Lake. The weather was kind of rough and did not clear up until Friday. I waited until sunset and walked down with her and my sister to the lake front to watch the sunset. She actually pulled out a mini camcorder and recorded all the way down from my Grandpa's house to the lake front, not realizing that she was recording her own proposal. On the walk down my sister also decided to play some back ground music, which was the song Let It Be by Blackmill featuring Veela which we had just heard the night before when we went out for some not-so-great sushi in Bigfork. As we approached the lake front, there was a flock of geese that flew off of the edge of the property into the sunset.
I then asked her if I had told her about that "new acoustic song I really liked" the week prior. She was like, "No, what are you talking about?" So I told her to come check it out, and handed her my sister's Kindle Fire with the song already pulled up. Now, to avoid any awkward pauses, I actually downloaded the song on to the device just to make sure that didn't become an issue. At first she just kind of laughed as she watched the different photos. All I can say is that it felt like... MY HEART FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO BEAT RIGHT OUT OF MY CHEST.
She actually got up and walked away from the concrete steps where I had planned on dropping to one knee after the video finished, so I had to improvise a bit. She wound up walking over just to the left and set with her feet hanging off the retainer wall as she watched the video. Once the video finished on the final screen, Will You Marry Me, she turned and said, "You jerk!" Not the reaction I expected to say the least. I had really thought she was going to get emotional, but instead it was just total surprise and shock even though we had already talked about getting married. She just didn't think I would have the finances together to be able to propose any time soon. Her reaction quickly went from "Naaaa Uhhhh..." and "You jerk!" to "Ohhhh my gosh babe!!" and "Yes of course I will!" after I dropped to one knee, busted out the ring, told her I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her and asked her to marry me.
End of story, she said yes and hopefully we'll be able to get married next Spring. Hope you enjoyed our story and this video.

I don't own any of the rights to this song obviously, so I'm not entirely sure how the copyright laws for this song will work. I would ask you to check out Joel's other songs, he's a really talented artist and I hope he gets more recognition in the US.
