house sparrow migration
The house sparrow is a bird of the sparrow family Passeridae, found in most parts of the world. It is a small bird that has a typical length of 16 cm (6.3 in) and a mass of 24–39.5 g. Females and young birds are coloured pale brown and grey, and males have brighter black, white, and brown markings
It feeds mostly on the seeds of grains and weeds, but it is an opportunistic eater and commonly eats insects and many other foods.
when it comes to nesting house sparrows
prefer to do it communally and will often nest very close to other pairs when this isn't under tiles and in eaves
they will also use man-made nest boxes holes in trees and amongst dense bushes.
House Sparrows are very social birds and typically nest in small colonies. Nest sites are varied and can include crevices in buildings and trees, holes in banks and cliffs, and hedges, trees and bushes. The nest is built from coarse vegetation and lined with softer materials like feathers, wool, hair and paper.
The female usually lays between 4 and 5 eggs and incubates them for around two weeks. On hatching, the chicks are featherless and entirely dependent on their parents care. The chicks are fed mainly on insects, with both parents bringing food to the nest. The chicks leave the nest 14-16 days after hatching and are fed by their parents for a further week or so. House Sparrows typically raise two or broods a year.
House Sparrows are one of many bird species that take dust baths. They create a small hollow and use their wings to help distribute the dust over their body. It's thought that a dust bath helps Sparrows get rid of parasites, dry skin and excess preen oil.
