Think about it:

The tongue is a BIG muscle. The root attaches to the hyoid...

The larynx (where the vocal cords are housed) attaches to the hyoid in some places... so if you've got a tight tongue... essentially, everything is tight.

So, take a moment before you sing to release the root of your tongue - you'll find singing to be much easier!
