"You don't define your world in black and white because there is so much hiding amongst the greys" -Unknown
We shot this quick interview with Omar when we were filming in Jamaica a few years ago. Omar lives in one of the toughest areas of Kingston. For decades, drug lord Christopher "Dudus" Coke ruled the area with ruthlessness, yet acted as a community patron by providing much-needed school supplies and other necessities for residents. When police came to arrest Dudus in 2010, over 70 people died trying to defend him. While Dudus has been tried for the violent crimes he and his gang are linked to, he has also left behind a legacy of charitable giving that inspires people like Omar to aid their local communities.
This piece is part of our "Life, As It Is" series—a collection of impromptu shoots from around the world that are bound to happen when adventure meets spontaneity.
