As Canada's premiers are meeting in B.C. to push for more federal health-care funding, emergency rooms across the country are struggling with lengthy wait times and staff shortages.
Sick calls, burnout, backlogs, an aging population and COVID-19 have all exposed a widening gap, with the pandemic also seeing more families forced into ERs, with many general practitioners stopping in-person consultations.
As Jamie Mauracher reports, doctors are sounding the alarm, saying rising COVID-19 cases and a new concerning variant could make things even worse.
