The oldest wolf in Yellowstone National Park has given birth to another litter of pups!
“Wolf 907F” is 11 years old, more than twice the life expectancy of a wolf in the wild. The three pups are about a month old. This is Wolf 907F’s 10th litter. The pups are now starting to roam around a little.
Wolf 907F is a survivor. She’s lived most of her life with just one eye. She lost it somehow in the first four years of her life. Two other wolves have made it to age 12, according to the Yellowstone Wolf Project. Most only live to be 3 or 4 years old and typically die in a territorial fight with another wolf pack or during an elk or bison hunt. But Wolf 907F has proven to be incredibly smart and tough, which she is likely sharing with the next generations.
“They can get enough experience that being successful is something that they then teach the younger packmates,” Kira Cassidy of the Yellowstone Wolf Project told Scripps News.
