Istanbul Attacks
The Turkish government says the far left DHKP-C is responsible for a gun attack on the US Consulate in Istanbul. One of the attackers was wounded and arrested. The other fled. The same group claimed responsibility for an attack on the US embassy in Ankara in 2013. The government has also said the PKK is responsible for a suicide attack on a police station in the city that wounded 10 people. After the explosion, 2 suspected militants and a police officer died in a gunfight.
Nusra Front Leaves Frontline Against ISIS
Nusra Front says it has withdrawn from frontline positions against ISIS in northern Aleppo. But it will continue to fight ISIS in other areas like the provinces of Hama and Qalamoun.The group criticised Turkey’s plan to build a ‘safe-zone.’ It says rather than fighting against Syrian President Bashar al Assad, Ankara is looking out for its own national security. Turkey and the US have been working on plans to provide air cover for a group of US-trained Syrian opposition fighters. They intend to force ISIS out of a strip of northern Syria that stretches about 80 kilometres along the Turkish border.
Migrants Employment Outlawed
The UK’s immigration minister, James Brokenshire has warned that businesses employing undocumented migrants will face criminal punishment. He said there would be a new round of monitoring focused on three sectors: construction, cleaning and care. Britain has been under pressure to do more to discourage people in France from entering the UK through the Eurotunnel.
Urban Doggie Challenge
The American Kennel Club has introduced a new test to measure whether a dog is an "urban canine good citizen." More and more Americans now want to bring their dogs into public spaces. The AKC’s new test takes place in a ‘real-world setting.’ For instance, dogs must prove they can sit and stay for at least three minutes in a restaurant or a store. About 500 dogs have passed the test since it began in April.
