Hey everyone!🪕🌞 Another Thursday another clawhammer banjo tune 🌿💛
This video is from a year back when I sat in for a tune with Toronto band Crazy Fingers Bluegrass on the song Viola Lee Blues at The Cloak & Dagger! Check out their instagram @crazyfingersbluegrass
"Viola Lee Blues" originated in the early 20th century, first recorded by Noah Lewis in 1928 as part of the Memphis Jug Band's repertoire. It gained early popularity through various renditions by artists like Cannon's Jug Stompers in the 1930s. However, it found renewed fame in the 1960s when the Grateful Dead adopted it into their repertoire, transforming it into a vehicle for extended improvisational jams during their live performances. This version not only brought the song back into prominence but also influenced the development of psychedelic rock and jam band culture.
