(21 Nov 2013) HOLIDAY LIGHTS DAZZLE THE CHAMPS ELYSEES
French actress and model Laetitia Casta and Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe welcomed the holiday season with the annual lighting of the Champs Elysees lights Thursday (21 NOV. 2013.)
The event has become a yearly tradition in Paris.
This year, some 200 trees along the famous Parisian avenue leading to the Arc de Triomphe have been decorated with "tree rings" - LED rings that pulsate from violet to red every night between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. Local time.
Tourists who witnessed the turning on of the lights were impressed with this year's design.
"It is absolutely gorgeous. I love it," said Kimberly Rickard, on holiday from Ohio in the U.S.
Martine Lambert from New York echoed Rickard's sentiments.
"It's fascinating and it's absolutely gorgeous, beautiful. The lights are just fantastic to see," she said.
The lights will stay illuminated through 8 January 2014.
