'How to' guide for sending effects (FX / reverb) to monitors for the X32 & XR18 consoles from Behringer & the Midas M32 and MR18. With more and more musicians now using in ear monitors (IEMs), the demand for reverb and other FX on their microphone and in their monitor mixes is growing.
The detail level of an in ear monitor mix is high, and distracting ambient sounds are much more controlled. Therefore, musicians are more likely to notice undesired changes in the mix, as well as appreciate the spaciousness and studio quality that reverb can bring to a monitor mix. But with the isolation and detail of live in ear monitor mix, there comes little margin of error for the engineer. Understanding how to give the musicians reverb, when requested, and the options and things to look out for, can be a big help in making for a solid performance for everyone. The crowd, the performers, and the engineer(s).
This information is pertinent for live wedges or IEMs. In fact, although the examples are demonstrated on the Behringer X32 and XR18 digital mixing platform, the methods are the same for any audio console.
