Heroes of the Ocean Ranger
By Dr. Chris Williams
On a freezing night when I was ten
By God I remember as it was then
A stranger came gave us the news
The Ranger sank with all the crew
A look of horror on my mother’s face
Forty years still can’t erase
Eighty four families told the same
The wild Atlantic claimed all the blame
Nor’easter off the Grand Banks
Nor’easter off the Grand Banks
A raging tempest a 100 foot wave
Sunk the Ocean Ranger to its forlorn grave
Eighty four men all they knew
Lost off Newfoundland as that Hurricane blew
Remember those dead heroes
My Tribute to the Ocean Ranger
Pray for the bereaved
Heroes of the Ocean Ranger
Could the Company done better should’ve done more
But Nothing ‘s safe 200 miles from shore
An inquisition doled out the blame
Powerful interests always rig that game
Sons and daughters of the men who passed
Can see their faces still hear their laugh
When the Ranger sank I was just a lad
He was my hero I called him Dad
Nor’easter off the Grand Banks
Nor’easter off the Grand Banks
A raging tempest a 100 foot wave
Sunk the Ocean Ranger to its forlorn grave
Eighty four men all they knew
Lost off Newfoundland as that Hurricane blew
Remember those dead heroes
My Tribute to the Ocean Ranger
Pray for the bereaved
Heroes of the Ocean Ranger
