So being able to decipher whether the fish that you are seeing on your graph are bass or crappie or walleye is really important, that way you don't waste a bunch of time fishing for bass when you are actually looking at walleye or crappie on your graph.
Most fish on Side Imaging or down Imaging basically look like white dots. It is important to know that not only can you see a little white dot but you also will see the dot’s shadow. The closer that the white dot is to the shadow the closer that fish is to the bottom! If you see a white dot and a shadow that is further away that fish is more than likely suspended and also harder to catch.
Typically when you find a school or group of bass on Side Imaging and down Imaging they are basically going to be lined up in a row across the bottom. Basically they look like turtles on a log.
This is really a perfect example of what bass look like, they are lined up across the bottom just like turtles line up on a log when it's sunny in the springtime.
The only time you will typically find that bass actually stack up on top of each other is when there are literally thousands of bass in a small area and they have no other choice but to stack up on top of each other. But even so when you see this you will still see that band or line across the bottom of bass.
Typically when you see stacks of fish that almost look like a ladder those are going to be crappie or white bass so it is important not this waste time fishing for these because they're not bass.
