Do corporations have an interest in protecting human rights? Speaking at the 5th Annual Teaching Business and Human Rights Workshop, Professor Lynn A. Stout argues business interests need not undermine the public interest, whether human rights protections of employees to environmental concerns. Arguing against the “shareholder value ideology” that corporations must maximize shareholder value at the expense of human rights, Professor Stout speaks of the value of corporate responsibility to promote successful, humane businesses.
