I wanted to find the best Banh Mi while in Hoi An.
During the hunt, I found out there were a couple spots close by that have been showcased on Munchies and even featured on 'No Reservations' with Anthony Bourdain.
Me and my buddy Graham grabbed some scooters and hit the road to find them.
First, we tried Tiệm Bánh Mi Phương - also known as, Madam Phuong.
They bake their bread right next door - which is slightly crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside. The sandwich had mayo, pate, pork floss, grilled pork, pickled papaya, cucumber, tomato and onion with some cilantro and mint. I forgot to ask for the famous fried egg to go on top.
Next, we headed over to Madam Khanh - the "Banh Mi Queen".
Right off the bat, this was my favourite of the three I tried. I found it was dressed with more sauce, which made it too easy to eat quickly.
It wasn't as crowded as Madam Phuong’s shop but had a constant flow of people in and out.
I finished the hunt at Bánh Mì Tam Hoa.
Although banh mi is cheap, this was definitely the best value and a popular spot for locals. If you go, you have to get it with their hot sauce - it was the perfect amount of spice.
