"Forever" was originally released as an instrumental in 1959 by the soon-to-be-famous Nashville pianist Floyd Cramer in a faster, upbeat version. A few months later, "The Little Dippers" recorded a very similar version to the one you’re currently hearing, with Cramer again behind the piano. In 1964, another Nashville session musician, Pete Drake, added his signature "Talking Steel Guitar" to the song, backed by the same group that recorded the second version.
