The latest tragedy in the Mediterranean has underlined the scale of the crisis in Europe's waters. 31,500 migrants have arrived from North Africa so far this year, 13,500 were rescued in one week in April alone, 900 migrants died attempting the crossing between the 1st of January and the 15th of April.
