Heat Wave #1 moves into "Day 5" today. We started on Friday with 104°. Saturday was 106° and Sunday at ripe 107°. The extreme heat lingered into Monday with 106°, but Independence Day will tapper down a bit as highs barely reach the century marker. The leading ridge of high pressure over the Desert Southwest moves eastward enough to allow for enough coastal air to move in. This will take us to the upper 90s by Thursday. So... expect triple digit heat to hold through Wednesday. Mountain areas will fall away from the 90s today to the mid to low 80s thanks to the ridge budging east. That means it will feel drier and more comfortable for any firework shows this evening. Low 70s in the Tehachapi mountain areas to mid 80s in the South Valley floor.
A digging trough out of the Gulf of Alaska. moves over northern California pushing temps into the mid 90s Thursday through Sunday. No clouds are forecast with the front, but breezy conditions in our mountain areas will be around. Air quality will be in the good to moderate range today through the weekend.
Next week, after the upcoming weekend, triple digits return. Heat Wave #2 starts next Monday as high pressure rebuilds out of the Desert Southwest. Skies remain sunny with a potential Heat Advisory. PRemember to stay out of the Kern County River; stay out and stay alive.
