There is controversy surrounding the health benefits of soy foods, especially in regard to breast cancer, and we’re here with evidence-based research to put the rumors to rest. One of the misperceptions on this topic that lead many to believe that soy foods lead to chronic disease like breast cancer, is that phytoestrogens in soy are actual estrogens. The effects of soy phytoestrogens and actual estrogens overlap in some ways, and diverge in others. For example, clinical evidence in postmenopausal women reveals that, unlike estrogen, phytoestrogens have no harmful impact on breast or vaginal tissues. Like estrogen however, phytoestrogens alleviate hot flashes, improve circulation, and may even improve skin health.
Phytoestrogens are plant-derived compounds that provide health benefits such as a lowered risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, breast cancer, and menopausal symptoms.
Researcher shows that the natural hormones found in all cow’s milk- including estrogen and IGF-1- may be the cause of increased cancer risk.
It is important to understand that phytoestrogens and actual estrogens are different and have different effects on the body, and once we do, we can protect our body against chronic illness through a healthy diet that is rich in soy!
