Syrian government forces and their allies Monday intensified air strikes on rebel-held areas of the Idlib countryside Monday, March 2.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor group, reported an increase the number of air raids carried out by government forces in countryside south of Idlib and Saraqeb.
The strikes came amid escalating and direct clashes between Syrian and Turkish forces which could signal a new stage in the war.
Turkey has sent thousands of troops and armored vehicles into northern Syria over the past month to fight back against Assad. Last week, a Syrian air strike killed at least 34 Turkish soldiers in the deadliest attack on the Turkish army in decades.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Russia’s Vladimir Putin are due to meet on Thursday to seek ways to avert conflict.
