Filmed on 18.02.2020.
This is on a Winter holiday trip to Reykjavík and Reykjavík Region, the capital region of Iceland, for 3 nights (+ 1 night at Keflavik Airport at the hotel Keflavik), between 16 - 20.February, 2020.
There are still lots of old elevators from the 1950s - 1970s over there (In total, I filmed 135 elevators in Iceland), and Iceland was the last independent Nordic country that I had yet to visit. It was very beautiful and I really enjoyed my time there. I hope to get back there hopefully in summertime for a visit to Akureyri and Reykjavik again (to visit Mosfellsbær, Garðabær and Seltstjarnanes).
Unfortunately, I couldn't find any OTIS with black buttons and automatic doors, and the only existing one at the time was one that was out of order (or closed permanently) in the city center. Not even in the suburbs did I come across one. Maybe there is one working left somewhere and hopefully in Akureyri, the fifth largest town in Iceland and the capital of Northern Iceland that has a well-known university.
This elevator was added later in 2008 into the oldest part of the Kringlan shopping center, which is one of just two in the Reykjavík region, the other (Smáralind) being the biggest in Iceland. The elevator speaks Icelandic.
The Kringlan Shopping Center was opened in 1987 with two Deve-Heðinn elevators, and expanded in 1999 with a KONE Delta Monospace elevator and a 1999 six-sided KONE M Roped Hydraulic Scenic elevator.
