The US general set to take over command of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan said there may yet be 'significant changes' to the US war strategy in the country.
At his confirmation hearing in Washington, General David Petraeus also warned that fighting is likely to get more intense in the coming months.
Petraeus' nomination was approved and will move to a full Senate vote later this week.
